Why Horses Are Loyal Companions

Many people say that dogs are man’s best friend, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other animals that make great companions. In fact, horses are some of the most loyal animals you will ever encounter. But why is this? Well, a larger part of it has to do with the fact that they have great memory. When you befriend a horse, they will remember you for the long haul.

Of course, all of this is dependent upon how well you treat the horse. Neglecting a horse can have the opposite effect, but treating these animals properly will yield great results. Horses can remember people and specific situations, so when you treat a horse well, they will act positively towards you in future encounters. Like we said, this works both ways. Horses can become incredibly nervous if they are brought around a person or even a place where they had a bad experience.

Even if there is a horse that you only see a few times a year, or even less, it will likely remember you. Horse’s memory is one of its strongest assets, and it can recognize a familiar and friendly face instantly. This becomes even truer when talking about the relationships between horses and the people they interact with on a daily basis. This relationship can be deepened with proper training. Providing your horse with positive reinforcement, like food or even affection when they follow a command, will go a long way towards forming a lifelong bond.
